Garage Door Sensor Repair in LaBelle

A door that refuses to close usually has a sensor problem, and most are a quick fix: alignment, cleaning, a damaged wire or a failed eye.

The Opener Isn't Broken, It's Being Careful

Two small sensors sit just above the floor, one on each jamb, and one shines an infrared beam at the other. Break that beam while the door is descending and the opener reverses. When the sensors can't see each other, the opener assumes something is in the way and won't close.

The causes are usually minor: a bracket knocked by a bike, dirt or a cobweb on a lens, low sun shining into one eye, or a wire pinched by a staple or chewed by a rodent. We find which one and leave the safety system working as intended.

How Sensor Faults Show Up

  • Door goes down, then right back up

The opener reverses within a foot or two of starting to close, with nothing visibly in the way.

  • Opener light blinking

Many openers flash their light a set number of times to report a sensor fault.

  • Indicator LED dark or flickering

Each sensor has a small light. If one is off or unsteady, it's misaligned, dirty or losing power.

  • Only closes while you hold the button

Pressing and holding the wall control can force a close on many models. It gets the door shut, but the protection isn't working.

Fixing the Sensors the Right Way

  1. 01

    Clean and realign

Lenses are wiped, brackets snugged up and each eye adjusted until both status lights stay solid.

  2. 02

    Trace the wiring

The low-voltage wire is followed along the wall and ceiling for staples, pinches, bad splices and chew marks.

  3. 03

    Replace if needed

A dead sensor gets swapped for one that works with your opener's brand, mounted at the height the maker specifies.

  4. 04

    Prove the reverse

We break the beam mid-close and set an object in the doorway to confirm the door reverses every time.

Sensor Questions

Why does my door only act up in the late afternoon?

Low sun can shine straight into the receiving sensor and drown out the beam. If the problem shows up around the same hour each day, swapping which side sends and which receives, or adding a small shade, usually fixes it.

Can the sensors be disconnected so the door just closes?

No, and we won't do it. They're what keeps a closing door from coming down on a child, a pet or a car hood. A faulty sensor gets repaired or replaced, not removed.
