Small Problems Are Easier to Fix Early

Springs lose tension gradually, cables fray a strand at a time, rollers dry out and bolts loosen from vibration. None of that announces itself until something gives, usually at an inconvenient moment.

That's what a tune-up is for. We test the balance, inspect the springs and cables, tighten hardware, lubricate what needs it and check the opener's safety features. You get a plain report on what's healthy and what's wearing. Nothing is replaced unless you ask, and there's no pitch for a new door if yours is doing fine.

Signs It's Been Too Long

  • More than a year since anyone looked

Wear builds whether or not you notice it, and humid air speeds it along.

  • New squeaks or rattles

Often it's bearings that need lubricant, a bolt that has backed off, or track that has wandered out of alignment. All are simple to put right now.

  • Slower, shakier travel

A door that hesitates or shudders is often a sign the springs are weakening.

  • The opener sounds strained

If the motor labors more than it used to, the door may be out of balance.

What Happens During a Tune-Up

  1. 01

    Balance test

The opener is disconnected and the door lifted by hand to see whether the springs are still carrying it properly.

  2. 02

    Inspect and tighten

Springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges and track brackets are checked, and loose fasteners are snugged up.

  3. 03

    Lubricate the right spots

A lubricant made for garage doors goes on the springs, roller bearings and hinge pins. The tracks themselves get wiped clean and stay dry.

  4. 04

    Opener safety check

We test the opener's force and travel limits, run the photo-eye and reversing checks, then go over anything worth keeping an eye on.

Tune-Up Questions

Is once a year enough?

For most households, yes. If the door is your main way in and out and runs many times a day, or the garage takes a lot of humidity, twice a year is reasonable.

And if you spot something worn?

You'll hear what it is, how urgent it is and what it would take to fix. Some things are worth doing right then, others can wait. It's your call either way.

Been a While Since Anyone Checked It?

Most breakdowns give hints for months. A tune-up is how you hear them before the door quits.
